The University of Tartu letter of appreciation may be awarded to university members and individuals outside the university who have made a significant contribution to the success of an undertaking related to the university or who have rendered valuable long-standing service to the university. The rector, vice rector, dean, area director, head of an institute, director of a college and director of a non-faculty institution may award letters of appreciation on behalf of the university.

The decoration "100 Semesters at the University of Tartu" is awarded by the Rector to staff members who have dedicated their careers to the development of the University of Tartu.

The award “Pillar of the University” was presented between 1994 and 2012 to recognise individuals and legal entities who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of the University of Tartu and to shaping its good reputation and status in Estonia and around the world.
