University of Tartu students are welcome to apply for ENLIGHT Inclusion and Sustainability Awards
All bachelor’s and master’s students of the University of Tartu are invited to apply for the ENLIGHT Inclusion and Sustainability Awards to be presented at the Teaching and Learning Conference in Uppsala on 8–10 October 2025. The awards acknowledge students who have demonstrated dedication to promoting diversity, inclusion, accessibility and sustainability through their projects, initiatives or research.

University of Tartu awarded four early-stage researchers at the Independence Day ceremony
Today, at the ceremony and concert dedicated to the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia in the University of Tartu assembly hall, the Peeter Tulviste memorial fund prize, the Ernst Jaakson memorial fund scholarship and the Lennart Meri award for research and for master’s thesis were presented.

Professor Peeter Tulviste memorial fund prize went to Uku Tooming
On 21 February, the Peeter Tulviste memorial fund prize was presented at the ceremony marking the Republic of Estonia’s anniversary at the University of Tartu. The 5,000-euro prize was awarded to Research Fellow in Theoretical Philosophy Uku Tooming, whose research focuses on understanding the cultural nature of humans.

Lennart Meri awards went to Timo Aava and Hegle Pärna
On 21 February, at the Independence Day ceremony in the University of Tartu assembly hall, the recipients of the Lennart Meri award for research and the Lennart Meri award for master’s thesis were announced. The 6,000-euro award for research went to Timo Aava for his doctoral thesis in history, and the 4,000-euro award to Hegle Pärna for her master’s thesis in law.

Ernst Jaakson memorial fund scholarship was awarded to Research Fellow in Materials Science Kristjan Kalam
On 21 February, the recipient of this year’s Ernst Jaakson memorial fund scholarship was announced at the ceremony of the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia in the University of Tartu assembly hall. The 18,000-euro scholarship was awarded to Kristjan Kalam, a Research Fellow in Materials Science at the Institute of Physics.
