Live one day as a University of Tartu student

Student shadowing allows a university student and a person interested in their field of study to spend one day together so that the prospective student can get an idea of student life at the university, the field of study and the University of Tartu. Prospective degree-seeking international students can also visit Estonia and Tartu.

The date is agreed between the university student and the shadow; the university has not set a specific date.

Prospective international students may also need a visa to enter the Republic of Estonia. The University of Tartu will not assist prospective international students in attaining a visa to participate in the student shadowing project; they have to get a visa independently.

Why come student shadowing?

Have you wondered what it's like to study at the University of Tartu, what the lectures, seminars and practical classes are like, where and how the students spend their free time, and whether the degree programme you have considered suits you?

Student shadowing allows you to see with your own eyes what's going on at the university. You can choose a specialisation you would like to learn more about, and we will find a suitable student who will help you experience your future within a day. To be entirely sure of your choice, you can come shadowing multiple times and for different programmes throughout the academic year. In this case, you need to register again.

When shadowing a student,

  • a university student will organise a day for you.
  • you will meet other students and lecturers.
  • you will participate in lectures, seminars and practical classes or labs.
  • you will see the study buildings and dormitories (if the student lives in a dormitory).
  • you will experience the true student life of Tartu.
  • the student will answer all your questions and give tips for the future from their experience.

When can you come shadowing?

Student shadowing programme is open for regsitartions:

  • from the second week of September until Christmas;
  • from the second week of February until the end of May.

Students and shadows can arrange their day of shadowing also during those time periods.

Registration

Registration for student shadowing will open again in the second week of September when our students return to school and can take shadows to their classes. If you have any questions, please contact us at studentshadowing@ut.ee
