The purpose of supporting the professional development of academic staff is to ensure the high quality of teaching at the university. The development of teaching and instruction skills at the University of Tartu is based on the good practice of teaching (for example, learning-centred approach, scientific way of thinking, cooperation).

Since 2015, members of the academic staff have been able to apply for the scholarship of teaching and learning. The aim of the scholarship is to support the development of teaching and help spread best teaching.

An e-course is a systematic, comprehensive set of learning materials, learning activities and learning guides that supports the partial or entire implementation of the learning process online. A high-quality e-course is important and necessary for different target groups, all of whom have their own demands and expectations for quality. When creating an e-course, it is recommended to follow the guidelines for creating a high-quality e-course and the quality criteria of the e-course.
