At the university’s ceremony marking the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, Henri Pokk, a master’s student of the University of Tartu, was announced the winner of the three rectors’ scholarship competition, which was held for the seventh time.

On the eve of the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, Rector of the University of Tartu Toomas Asser announced the university’s contribution to society award, research award and language award and the recipients of the teaching staff of the year award for 2023.

Based on the submitted proposals, the committee formed by the UT Student Union chose the recipients of the teaching staff of the year awards for 2023.

The government of Estonia has approved the laureates of this year’s national research awards.

As the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia approaches, President Alar Karis bestows Estonian state decorations to 151 people, nine of whom are members of the university family.

Tartu City Council assigned the titles of Honorary Citizen of Tartu and the honorary decorations Tartu Täht on 25 January. Enn Lust, Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Tartu was granted the title of Honorary Citizen.

Today, on 1 December, the University of Tartu celebrates the 104th anniversary of the opening of the Estonian-language university. At the anniversary ceremony, Rector Professor Toomas Asser announced this year’s recipient of the “Contribution to Estonian National Identity” award – the acclaimed director, teacher and founder of modern dramaturgy Merle Karusoo.

The University of Tartu found recognition in the “Heartfelt Euro Deed” competition for building the Delta Centre, which was elected among the top 30 projects. The construction of the Children’s Clinic of the Tartu University Hospital was the winner of the competition.

Estonian Academy of Sciences Foundation awarded its scholarships for 2024 to Ülo Reimaa, a Research Fellow in Algebra at the University of Tartu Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, and Angela Peeb, a doctoral student in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Tartu.

On 24 November, at 16:00, Rector Toomas Asser presented the university’s honorary decorations at the ceremony in the assembly hall.
