The Just Transition Consortium supports both technological and societal transition in Ida-Viru County
On 16 October, the first cooperation seminar of Tallinn University of Technology and the University of Tartu’s consortium of the Just Transition Fund was held at the Virumaa College of the Tallinn University of Technology. The event brought together 22 research teams whose work will help develop technologies and monitor societal transition in the Ida-Viru region over the next six years.

The University of Tartu Mobility Lab in cooperation with the University of Tartu Research Group of Physical Activity for Health is carrying out a mobility survey commissioned by the Rector’s Office to support sustainable mobility at the university.

From 1 to 5 October 2024, Viljandi is organizing the Viljandi Heritage Festival which belongs to the Tartu 2024 program, taking place at the Estonian Traditional Music Centre and its surroundings.
Young people in Narva offered ideas to implement green transition in the region
As part of the Ida-Viru County Entrepreneurship Week, on 6 October, Narva College hosted an idea competition for young people to come up with ideas for implementing the green transition. The best idea was that of the students of Narva Upper Secondary School: using textile waste from the sewing industry to make toys for pets.
University representatives discussed with the minister of climate how to involve researchers in drafting the Climate Act
On 9 October, Rector Toomas Asser, Vice Rector for Development Tõnu Esko and Vice Rector for Research Mari Moora met with Minister of Climate Kristen Michal and his Science Adviser Aveliina Helm in Tallinn to discuss opportunities for cooperation, funding for sustainability-related research projects and ensuring the involvement of university researchers in the development of the Climate Act.

Report: Estonian start-ups should be open to digitised cell line development
Experts see digitised cell line development as one of six key deep technologies for Estonia, with a breakthrough expected within the next twenty years. Estonia’s possibilities in this field are mainly linked to pharmaceutical development and personalised medicine, shows the Foresight Centre in its recent brief report “Digitised Cell Line Development: State of Play and Prospects”. The Univeristy of Tartu will offer strong research competence on these fields.
