About UniTartu Summer School

During the summer courses, participants can experience the Estonian summer in the smart city and get a taste of academic life in Estonia.

Most of the courses take place in Tartu, the student capital of Estonia. Tartu is also known in Estonia as the city of good thoughts and the city of youth. It is considered one of the best living environments for students (LivCom Awards 2019). In 2024, Tartu was the European Capital of Culture. With its peaceful natural surroundings and safe living environment, Tartu is an ideal place to study and live.

UniTartu Summer School is hosted by the University of Tartu, one of the leading universities in Northern Europe. It is consistently ranked among the world’s top 350 universities. The University of Tartu is Estonia's leading centre of research and training. It is also one of the oldest universities in Northern and Eastern Europe. It was founded in 1632 by King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden.

Launched in 2022, the UniTartu Summer School celebrates its fifth anniversary in 2026. Since its launch, nearly 350 students from 50 countries have participated, creating a truly international learning environment. Participant feedback has been highly positive: in the most recent edition, 91% rated their experience highly and 96% said they would recommend the summer school to others.

Each year, the UniTartu Summer School offers a wide range of interdisciplinary courses across diverse fields. The courses are closely connected to the curricula of the University of Tartu and are taught in English by leading experts. With a strong practical focus, the summer courses provide hands-on learning experiences. Many former participants have discovered during their stay that the University of Tartu is an excellent place to study and have decided to continue their studies here.

The UniTartu Summer School offers a vibrant cultural programme that brings together participants from all summer courses. Designed to foster connections across disciplines, the programme creates plenty of opportunities to socialise and build international friendships. Highlights include guided city tours, museum visits, social events, a festive closing reception, and much more.
